The word "chakra" comes from Sanskrit and means wheel or circle. Chakras are energy centers that are invisibly connected to each other, and always close to an important organ. The 7 Chakras were first described in ancient texts about 2600 years ago, and they are as accurate today as they were then.
If one or more chakras is out of balance, then this can, over time, lead to physical, emotional and/or mental problems. Keeping them balanced is something that everyone can do without investing too much time at once.
Our physical body is strictly connected to our emotional and mental condition. Recognizing this is a basic, but essential first step.

A person finds themselves in a state of absolute harmony and balance when all 7 Charkas are completely open. Certain Chakras are often blocked, or some are smaller or almost closed off. Such blockages go in synch with physical and emotional complaints.
Through certain techniques it is possible to feel and see the Chakras, also to stimulate or open them. The most efficient method for opening up and activating the Chakras is the usage of specific gemstones. On the following pages you will learn more about each individual Chakra, its location, qualities & properties, as well as which stones & scents are beneficial for the activating process. |

Sahasrara - The 7th Chakra
Crown Chakra
Located at the top of the headQualities:
Understanding, Cosmic Cosciousness, Enlightment
|
Balancing this chakra gives vitality to the cerebrum and affects the development of psychic abilities. Most people never activate the 7th chakra, and only a few ever activate the 6th. However, it shouldn't be neglected or imbalanced. An imbalanced 7th chakra either means a complete lack of conscience and/or spirituality, or life in a dream world, without any relation to reality. |
Ajna - The 6th Chakra
Third Eye Chakra
Located in the center of the forehead above the eyebrowsQualities:
Clairvoyance, Intuition, Phychic Senses
|
Balancing this chakra helps psychic perception and balances the pineal gland. Many people never activate their 6th chakra and even fewer the 7th chakra. Ajna is about materializing dreams, making them reality. Visualizing & making it happen. It is also about commanding others, with wisdom and intelligence, as well as healing others through positive energy. |
Vishuddha - The 5th Chakra
Throat Chakra
Located in the throatQualities:
Communication, Creativity, Healing
|
Balancing this chakra is important for the speech and communication areas of the brain. Vishuddha is about kind & loving communication, speaking truthful and with integrity, truly on the same level as anyone else you talk to (neither superior nor inferior) |
Anahata - The 4th Chakra
Heart Chakra
Located in the center of the chestQualities:
Love, Hope, Compassion

Balancing this chakra is important for the circulatory system, heart and thymus. Anahata is about love, empathy and respect for others. It's about acceptance and allowing/giving freedom, as well as understanding that you too need freedom in order to develop. |
Manipura - The 3rd Chakra
Solar Plexus Chakra
Located in the area above the navel area.Qualities:
Energy, Vitality, Will & Power
|
Balancing this chakra is associated with calming emotions and frustration, easing tension and helping the better usage of intuition. Manipura is about willpower and determination. An imbalance is, for instance, shown by a lack of determination or the feeling of being a "powerless victim" instead of understanding that you have a choice and that your life is the way it is because of the choices you made. |
Svadhisthana - The 2nd Chakra
Sacral Chakra
Located in the lower abdomen, genitals, wombQualities:
Emotions, Sexuality, Intimacy
|
Balancing this chakra is associated with sexual vitality, physical power and fertility. An imbalanced Svadhisthana leads either to a person with intimacy problems, one who will have difficulties giving and receiving sexual pleasure, providing comfort or being comforted, OR it can lead to a person becoming sex-obsessed, battling sexual addictions, etc. |
Muladhara - The 1st Chakra
Root Chakra
Located in the base of the spineQualities:
Survival Instinct, Security, Grounding
|
Balancing this chakra gives energy to the physical body, controls fear, increases overall health and helps in grounding. An imbalanced Muladhara can lead to feeling worthless, depressed or insecure. These feelings can manifest in different ways, such as suicide attempts but also aggression, being abusive or pushy (to increase self-confidence). An excessive need to accumulate possessions to boost the ego is another possible manifestation. |
